But the human factor has always been one of the causes of a hack, this tips will help you to be more cautious

  • Don’t be fooled, from the last case which Snapchat’s employee payroll leaked using phising method, we can learn to not trust anyone. If you get an email from someone claiming to be from Snapchat support for verification or something like that, do not immediately believe it. First, have you ever request to change login information? because such emails are only sent if you make changes to the login data. If you did not change anything, then you do not need to do any verification. The easiest thing to prevent this is to view the email address of the sender, don’t trust them if the domain is not @snapchat.com
  • Choose the right username and password. Many people using the same username for every social media they had, it is also possible that they use the same password. It can be very easy to guess if you post a variety of sensitive information that you have on the internet such as date of birth, your hobbies, your basketball team, your parent’s name, your pet name, etc. This kind of information could be used by attackers to guess your password by using bruteforce attack. So, you have to choose the different username from other platform, use a long hexadecimal password, but make sure you remember it, for example you can use a quote from your favourite movie.
  • Don’t install 3rd party app. Snapchat will lock your account if they find out about it. For security reason, Snapchat not allowing user to login from 3rd party app. Once you login to the 3rd party app, they will store your username and password to their database, and they could do anything with it. So Snapchat decided to lock your account if you are not using official app that you installed from Play Store or App Store.
