Evan Spiegel, Snapchat’s chief executive officer, admitted that Snapchat received a lot of criticism so he responded by doing a redesign. “One thing that we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback. As a result, we are currently redesigning our application to make it easier to use,” Spiegel said.
Snapchat will make its app easier to use for a wider audience. “We are going to make it easier to discover the vast quantity of content on our platform that goes undiscovered or unseen every day,” Spiegel told analysts of reuters on a conference call.
Snapchat is popular among millenials who are more familiar with the use of technology, so it is not difficult for them to use new applications with a variety of user interfaces. By redesigning, Snapchat may hope to attract more users from adulthood.
Redesigning Snapchat app will certainly impact the app in the short-term. On every change always requires adjustment. Snap chose to take the risk because they think this change is for long-term benefits to their business.
A new version of the app for Android users is also being prepared. “We will launch in select markets before rolling it out widely,” Spiegel said. “This new version of our application leverages everything we have learned about building for android over the past five years.”
